2019 West Coast Trip

As many of our followers know, Christian and I were married this past November. We decided to put off the big version of a honeymoon until it felt right and we knew where we wanted to go. Well, we decided to drive out to the Oregon Coast early this summer, and take our sweet time exploring.

Driving a falling-apart pick-up camper (that gets 9 miles to the gallon – sorry earth! 🙁 ) we drove 15 hours the first day. Making it from Two Harbors, MN to just inside the Montana boarder in one day. Yikes. Naturally, we added Glacier National Park as a stop. We booked a few nights at the West Glacier KOA, the only campground open and only about an 8 minute drive from the lake. We brought our handy Paddle North inflatable Kayak to Lake McDonald. Needless to say, it was breathtaking there. Pictures could never do that place justice.. but here are a couple anyway 😉

It was hard to remember to breathe. So still and so peaceful and mountains on every side
Sunsets on the water there are unlike anything I’ve ever seen before
Good story for this one – I like to try to get at least 7 hours of sleep when travelling (I know, I’m crazy..) This night I probably got about 5 and could barely sit up. Christian drove the camper right to the edge of the water so I that I could wake up to a beautiful sunrise in the mountains. I’ll say this, there is no better way to wake up in the morning than to see this view.

After Glacier, we made our way to Oregon. Here we met up with the famous John Gregor of Coldsnap Photography for a part of his workshop and some quality hang-out time with a good friend.

The Oregon Coast has a lot to offer. From rivers and waterfalls, to famous stops like Thor’s Well in Yachats. We even explored a couple tide pools, many thanks to John for showing us to them.

So much to see

But don’t worry.. as busy as we were this trip, we still found time for “us.” Dancing in the ocean is definitely a forever memory. We were lucky enough to find an AirBnb in Newport so we had a couple nights out of the cramped camper.

Seal Rock, OR Our favorite campground in Oregon was Seal Rock Campground – clean, small and beach access!

Travel can be stressful for any couple but we found the key for us is to make sure we are getting enough rest and eat good food. We got to explore so many beautiful spots and enjoy many sunrises and sunsets out on the road. But it was nice to make it back home to Minnesota.

Keep following along as we find our next adventure destination. And remember, watch out for deer. <3
