My Place In This World

Christian’s recent post (10/3/25 in the morning to be precise) got me thinking… He and I have had many conversations about so many of the songs we’ve recently been inspired by. We’ve laughed at lyrics that so totally fit something we’ve been going through. We’ve cried when a song we’ve heard a hundred times suddenly hits different.

This particular post of his, he originally was using Forrest Frank’s new ‘Lemonade’ song (Absolutely awesome song – helps create all the good feels – please listen to it after you read this 😉) but listening to the radio this morning, For King + Country came on and they played ‘My Place In This World.’ (Shout out to our friends at Life 97.3!) The lyrics include, “Not a lot to lean on – I need Your light to help me find – My place in this world.”

Like I said, some days the songs just hit differently. Today on our morning walk in the woods, I was watching Christian run around taking pictures of what felt like everything. Everywhere he turned his head, he saw beauty that needed to be captured – even though all he brought with him was his phone camera. Every time he’d see something he’d say, “Hey! Look at that!”, snap a quick picture then come back to show me exactly what it was he saw.

Like a kid in a candy store. This guy has a real gift. He would run up to a pine tree, covered with morning dew, and capture a picture of the water droplets forming on the end of each needle that sparkled in the sunlight. Or he’d see the bark on an aspen tree, lean directly up against it’s trunk, and take a picture looking straight up to the neon yellow leaves. In one spot he noticed Chick-a-dees flying around an area of asters that were just turning brown, they’d land and hang upside down on the end of the flowers and drink the sweet water, just dangling there, upside down. Christian was laughing trying to catch this show on camera.

I had the song in my head from this morning and I couldn’t help but think of Christian’s story. ‘Roaming through the night to find my place in this world.’ If we’re honest, I think a lot of us can relate. We’ve felt lost, stuck in a lifestyle of addiction or maybe stuck in a job that’s draining the joy out of us. Maybe we’ve found we became used to isolation and need to get around people again. Perhaps we could all learn from Christian’s example. We need to step out – literally out – and into our true calling. None of us are meant to live our lives on a bar stool, none of us are meant to live in isolation, we were made for joy.

‘I need your light to help me find my place in this world.’ We need to step into the light, stop hiding or lying to ourselves and deal with our issues. Maybe that’s going to a recovery group. Maybe that’s means literally chasing the sunlight. Maybe that’s finding your people.

We all have a place in this world. It’s a beautiful place in a beautiful world.

Step out into the sunshine today – and watch out for deer. 😉

Just off of the title of the blog, I knew what song you were going to reference. Absolutely love how you two partner with your blog and his photography. Love the devotional I picked up that both of you so graciously signed for me. Seriously, for me it was like meeting somebody famous. It was a pleasure to meet both of you last weekend on Sunday when we ventured up for the day. This is the gal from Hutchinson Minnesota.

    God Bless you both ✝️
