Festival of Sail

As you may have heard.. our little town was taken over this weekend by an interesting event. The Festival of Sail – previously known as The Tall Ships Festival and hosted in Duluth years past.

The Photographer and I decided to make a day of it. We packed a healthy lunch (ok fine.. I also made lemon bars – but I use half the sugar!) and loaded up a cooler of water. The Knife River Boat launch (apparently a public launch) was a stunning start. (I kid you not, it looked exactly like Sweden).

We floated/ motor-boated to Two Harbors from Knife River. And then we saw them. The tall boats with big sticks on them.

But for real, they’re kinda neat to look at. It’s a different view than what you normally get in Agate Bay. Fun, exciting and new.

Another interesting little piece to this event is the Giant Rubber Duck. Giant.

Anyone else singing, “Rubber Ducky you’re the one…” haha. Yeah we’re cool.

It was a big crowd that looked and sounded super fun! However, Christian and I are not really ‘big crowds’ people.. We had a lot more fun just the two of us floating around the bay.

If you were in town for the start of the festival, you probably heard the Pride of Baltimore shoot off the cannon… We were a few meters away.. right next to the big bang.. and definitely not prepared. I think my heart is still racing.. haha.

We spent about 5 hours floating out there before heading in. It was such a beautiful day, the lake was smooth and flat, the sun was gorgeous. And we could be together without feeling the guilt of all the things we need to get done. Sometimes that to-do list looks more manageable when you can walk (or float) away from it for a few hours.

If you’ve been wondering what it is we have been up to (not so much Photography related) I have a post for you here.

2023 Calendars are finally available for pre-order! Please visit christiandalbec.com to order. (Hoping to ship early September).

Hope you’re all finding your own summertime fun adventures!

Watch out for the deer.

OhMyOhMY! THIS is the way I would want to experience this wondrous experience. Maybe next year we could join you … if you have room, that is!

    Kara,
My husband David and I spent time in Duluth this past weekend with thoughts of heading up your direction. Didn’t make it up there, we ran out of time.
In swapping Duluth trip stories with my coworker I found out that you and her have known each other for awhile. Brianna is her name.
So cool, to realize that The Photographer we’ve been following on FB is known by someone in our neck of the woods.
