Grateful From Behind The Scenes
The Joy Of Being An Artist’s Wife
Many of our followers are aware of the publicity we have been getting lately along with a few “big breaks.” I would like to take a moment and express our eternal ‘Thanks’ to everyone that was a part of this.
As most of you are aware, you can find a rather large display of Christian’s beautiful images at Sivertson’s Gallery in Grand Marais, MN. This has been one of the biggest blessings and greatest honors for my artist. To be featured alongside other artists we have both loved and admired for years is both humbling and spine-tinglingly thrilling. The Sivertson family is a great one. They are kind and compassionate and incredibly – Incredibly artistic – in a way that makes you appreciate the full history of art.
Now, let me take a moment and describe the mind of an artist. It’s easy to take for granted when all we see is mind-boggling image after image. Million-dollar images posted constantly. Believe me – you’re not the only one who struggles to find just one favorite. But an artist – my artist – struggles every day with the feeling of not being good enough. It’s heart-breaking, but true. I can’t tell you how many times I hear “I’m just gonna sell all the camera gear and be done – nobody likes what I do” or “Yeah, someone bought a print today but I bet no one will ever buy anything ever again.” And you know what? He actually means this when he says it. It’s so common for the artist types to struggle with fear and insecurity on a daily basis – regardless of their chosen medium and regardless of sales history. But the crazy part? This fear is what drives them to always be better. If you ask Christian, “What is the perfect wave?” He will always answer, “The one I haven’t captured yet.” There is no end-goal for this man. It’s all or nothing every day.
Being an artist in Sivertson’s Gallery never even crossed his mind – Christian just never thought he’d be at the level of those artists. To be featured in the Star Tribune, WCCO Finding Minnesota, on Making It Up North and various local news broadcasts is just one honor after another. When he shares a story published on him, he is not bragging, he’s in shock. You know what he tells me after a story is published? He says, “I just want the world to see how beautiful our Lake is” and “I want people to appreciate our world and all the beauty we’re surrounded by.” It doesn’t even occur to him to check his website traffic. He just wants people to be drawn to his lake.
Christian’s story (see any of the news article/ episodes above), helps to show his values. Spending years on a bar stool, hiding away from reality, he finally woke up. He started seeing the sunrise, the sunset, the waves, the lake, the animals. He saw where true beauty lies – outside in nature.
Being the wife of an artist has it’s perks (I get to see at least 50+ images for each one that’s actually shared on social media), but it also means being a part of the behind-the-scenes. The good and the bad, we’re in this together. Some days are up and some days are down but you know what? I wouldn’t trade any of them for the world.
I would like to say a HUGE ‘Thank you’ to every one who has been a part of our story, from the galleries to the news stories, to every “like” and comment on Facebook & Instagram and all of you who have purchased art from Christian Dalbec Photography. We are humbled and honored to be where we are and have the support we have received. Thank you doesn’t even begin to cut it.
Life is a journey, folks. Thanks for coming along for the ride. Remember – watch out for deer. <3
