Photographer

In The Wee Small Hours..

..of the morning. When the whole wide world is fast asleep… you can bet there is a photographer out there somewhere, chasing the ever-rising light.

The Photographer and I recently spent a couple nights at his parents cabin -except we stayed in the camper to get used to the new set up. 😉 It was a pretty sweet deal, we knew we had the safety of being on “our land” and also knew we could run into the cabin if the weather or camper fever got too crazy.

I even got to take the Kayak out!

I enjoyed our little mini trips. It was a good escape from the crazy traffic and busyness of town.

Christian, of course, stepped up his art-game and captured some spectacular shots (even a storm!), in between being eaten alive by mosquitoes.

What I’ve learned to appreciate more and more being married to my Photographer, is the sunrise. I always thought of myself as a “night owl.” Working jobs from 12pm – 8 or 9pm, I would go to bed around midnight and wake up around 9. I thought that’s just who I was. Sunsets were my jam and sunrises were for crazy people. Even when I first started dating Christian, that was the norm for me. Until he kept bugging me to go on adventures… at 6 in the morning!!! ugh. I didn’t want to know there were two “6s” in a day.

Maybe that’s why coffee is such an important part of our lives…?

It’s also why I now think of us as that boring old couple.. in bed by 9:30 up by 5:30 (lately, Christian has even been getting up at 2am!). We just aren’t social butterflies either, so staying out around people is extra draining. Yes, the introverted sunrise life is where it’s at.

But eventually, the pictures won me over. For real. Christian had these amazing sunrise pictures and there was always a part of my brain (who hadn’t seen the sunrise in many many years) that thought, “It doesn’t look like that.. he’s making the picture different. It can’t possibly be that beautiful or everyone would be watching the sunrise.”

Ha.

Then I started going out to sunrises with him.. and boy was I wrong. I mean, Christian is an AMAZING photographer, but (sorry babe) God is an even better painter. Wow! Christian has been blessed with the amazing ability to capture a small sliver of that beauty and save it and share it for us all to experience. And being out there with him, during the magical hours in the morning – Breath-taking. Or like Bryan Duncan said, “There’s just no words for the song.”

While ultra early summer mornings are not my thing, even with giant vats of coffee, I’m still thankful for earlier morning hours. No traffic noises, less people and more birds. Oh the birds make the most beautiful songs in the morning.

Christian has taught me a great many things and some of them are greatly “small”. The wee small hours of the morning are the best part of the day. And even if you don’t have a brave partner willing to risk the wrath of waking you up extra early, you can appreciate the quiet stillness in the art. So grab a cup of coffee or tea, put on some smooth jazz or bird songs or rippling water sounds and breathe in the morning images:

Hope you’re safe and well and nourishing that beautiful soul of yours.

Watch out for the deer. 😉
