The Beginning

We decided to get this blog thing up and launched, so we thought we might as well start from where our story began..

A long long time ago. In a galaxy far far away.. Haha just kidding!!

But for real, our story began in a Two Harbors coffee shop, I was working as a bookkeeper/ barista and Christian was a local photographer who had his art for sale in the shop. His first words to me were literally, “Hey, get off the computer. We need that.” At least he was being funny and those blue eyes sure do sparkle when he’s up to mischief. 😉

We became fast friends as he usually stopped in twice a day to hang out and have an Americano (or two.. or three..). I couldn’t believe my eyes as I was treated to the “pictures of the day” on his phone. Every single day he showed me all the breathtaking images he’d captured that morning or the night before. I thought I was so lucky to see these images before anyone else and sometimes be the only person (other than Christian) to look at some of them. This is still a daily practice for us. <3

I soon learned of Christian’s battle with Alcoholism and how he finally freed himself. He has since learned and seen so much more than he ever thought possible. To see a man overcome such a battle in a small town without a support system was inspiring. I have said it before and I’ll say it again; I respected him before I fell in love with him. But fall in love with him I sure did.

After seeing so many pictures of the North Shore and places I’d never heard of or been to before, Christian offered to show me around. I had my own personal tour guide! I was thrilled! It didn’t take very long before we realized we were destined to be together. I read an old eastern proverb that described when you meet someone special and you get butterflies in your stomach or maybe nervous, excited or uncomfortable – that person is not your soulmate. It says when you meet your soulmate you feel peace, security and comfort. That is Christian in a nutshell. This man is my home.

So ever since then, we have been adventuring and exploring together. And let me just tell you this, a walk in the park with a photographer is no walk in the park. You are definitely stopping every three feet or so because *Somebody* sees something worthy of a shutter-click… but it is so so worth it. I have seen parts of the country and even our backyard that I never would have seen before. Christian has taught me to open my eyes to the everyday beauty around me.

We hope this blog will allow you to follow along on some of our adventures, learning a little bit and becoming more appreciative of this beautiful world we live in.

As we say in the Dalbec house, “watch out for deer.”

I think this blog is a wonderful idea. I am excited to see your future posts.
Your introduction is so well written & personal, giving us an inside look at how you & Christopher met & fell in love. ❤️
Like everyone else, I am so very much in awe of Christopher’s photography!! Because I grew up in Superior, WI, I spent a lot of time on the North Shore.
When I graduated & moved to the Twin Cities, I came back home often on weekends. Every time I got to the overlook on the Freeway & saw beautiful Lake Superior, I felt like I was “home”. I will always feel like Lake Superior is “home”!

Thank you for some insight on the beginning of your journey together. I always look forward to seeing Christian’s photos. I usually can see images of animals, creatures or other things in these magical waves. His photos are enlightening and make me happy. I sincerely wish the best of luck to both of you ! . . . And from what I’ve been reading, I think you’re well on your way. I’ll be in your neck of the woods next month. I’m very excited about this trip and making memories with my daughter. Your pictures have inspired her to try her hand at photography. So, maybe our paths will cross. Ty for sharing your creativity with all to see what they may have not seen without you. Kudos to you !
