    Festival of Sail

As you may have heard.. our little town was taken over this weekend by an interesting event. The Festival of Sail – previously known as The Tall Ships Festival and hosted in Duluth years past. The Photographer and I decided to make a day of it. We packed a healthy lunch (ok fine.. I also made lemon bars – but I use half the sugar!) and loaded up a cooler of water. The Knife River Boat launch (apparently a public launch) was a stunning start. (I kid you not, it looked exactly like Sweden). We floated/ motor-boated to Two Harbors from Knife River. And then we saw them. The tall…

    Cowabunga Dude!

Yes, I was of the ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ era.. but this phrase is way more awesome coming from a grinning 3-year-old son-of-a-surfer. Trust me on this. Waco, Texas. That was the destination of our most recent adventure earlier this month. Not because of Chip & Jo (oh believe me, that would’ve been My only reason for going to Waco). But Surprise! There is actually a pretty stinking sweet (or should a say, “So totally awesome”) Surf Park in Waco. Surfing. In Waco, Texas! Christian and I decided to drive down, so he could have access to the camper/changing station. Which meant 18+ hours of driving. Thankfully, we chose to…

    Oh Fount Of Joy

I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables Hej there! How are ya?! That quote sure gets used a lot this time of year, but man, do I feel it. I guess we should learn to be thankful for every month but the fall season is definitely one of my favorites. The colors, the smells, the crisp air, the warm cozy sweaters, we are officially entering Introvert season and I am so ready. One reason the Photographer and I are ready for the chill out time, is how busy we have been. But you know what, as busy as we…

    Good People, Badlands…

Explore it. Adore it. Medora, ND Our calendar as of late has looked awful busy.. It’s been simultaneously exciting and draining. We had a blast on the Keweenaw Peninsula (maybe that will be another blog post.. who knows.), we had the chance to connect and meet with many wonderful people in the Two Harbors Studio and more recently (as you might have noticed from the abundance of Bison pictures..) we toured the North Dakota Badlands, specifically Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Oof da, yo. There were times I couldn’t even take it. My man captured some amazing photos, as did our photog friends we were with on this trip. But for…

    Adventure Bug

Adventurers Without An Adventure I have been wracking my brain trying to come up with some sort of blog post. At first I thought I needed a Merry Christmas thing… maybe Season’s Greetings… or maybe now Happy New Year. I don’t know. Truth is, I haven’t felt so inspired. I feel house-bound and agitated. We had maybe one fun drive this past month and absolutely no exploring. I mean, we’ve done a lot this year. A lot. And I am thankful for every single minute of our adventures. But with multiple vehicle issues, the camper unfinished (which means no room for “following”) December has been kind of a bummer, not…

    What we’ve been up to

When the weather outside is -photographically?- frightful.. It has been an interesting few weeks in Casa de Dalbec. We have been so crazy busy it’s hard to even think at times… believe me when I say, I’m not the kind of person who associates busy-ness with success. In fact, it’s not even the fun kind of busy (with adventures, waves and mayhem and intrigue on the high seas.) We’ve been busy with lame stuff… like fixing multiple vehicles… and trying to upgrade a camper that has (all too quickly) gone well over-budget. While trying not to go too crazy, I’ve been tackling some house projects that I feel entirely unqualified…

    Michigan U.P.

And Gallery Coffee Company This past weekend, my photographer and I made the 6 hour trek to one of our favorite spots on our lake: Munising, MI. It’s always an interesting adventure to prep for.. do you bring summer clothes, fall clothes, spring, winter?? well, yes. You pack EVERYTHING.. for EVERY contingency. But oh yeah hey.. you’re in a tiny pick-up camper that has to hold multiple wet-suits and camera gear, not to mention food. Oh, the joys. Almost every time we plan a trip, we have a conversation about me driving for part of it. I have to gently remind Christian that while I would be more than happy…

    2019 West Coast Trip

As many of our followers know, Christian and I were married this past November. We decided to put off the big version of a honeymoon until it felt right and we knew where we wanted to go. Well, we decided to drive out to the Oregon Coast early this summer, and take our sweet time exploring. Driving a falling-apart pick-up camper (that gets 9 miles to the gallon – sorry earth! 🙁 ) we drove 15 hours the first day. Making it from Two Harbors, MN to just inside the Montana boarder in one day. Yikes. Naturally, we added Glacier National Park as a stop. We booked a few nights…

    The Beginning

We decided to get this blog thing up and launched, so we thought we might as well start from where our story began.. A long long time ago. In a galaxy far far away.. Haha just kidding!! But for real, our story began in a Two Harbors coffee shop, I was working as a bookkeeper/ barista and Christian was a local photographer who had his art for sale in the shop. His first words to me were literally, “Hey, get off the computer. We need that.” At least he was being funny and those blue eyes sure do sparkle when he’s up to mischief. 😉 We became fast friends as…
